It's official, I'm now a PNW'er. Got my WA plates on the SUV and my WA drivers license. Feels a bit strange after 70 years as a Californian.
I am loving it up here, while RB was running a temp of 103-105 it was 87 here. A cool marine breeze comes up in the evenings, making for great sleeping weather.
My bed is almost finished, will put it together tomorrow. A night stand to paint & assemble after that.
While I'm on this painting bender, I've asked Sean if I could repaint my bedroom, which is currently a particularly ugly green. He said, "go for it, mom!" LOL, I've packed a custom made gallon of paint with me for a few years now. (A friend had painted her dinning room at her new Ft Klamath house with it, and I loved the color.) So in the near future my bedroom will be "gray horse". Rather fitting for the occupant I'm thinking.
Sean is home for a while, and his oldest daughter, Jacey, has moved in with us for the summer. She is our family soccer player, on a semi-pro team. J has found a summer job here, and has two more possibles, within walking distance. It's good to have grandkids around.
Willie is adjusting, and is well loved by everyone. He made a few walkabout trips at first, but has settled in now.

I've been adopted by Sean's friends as Mom. Which means more family. I'm up for that.

You're with loved ones, and that helps the comfort level associated with a Big Move like you did.
ReplyDeleteSo good to hear you've settled in as much as we have!
drjim, You are right my comfort level has risen by a bunch. Now on to getting the garage storage bins sorted...
DeleteThat all sounds so great. Will there be pictures of the bedroom paint job when it's completed.
ReplyDeleteNelly, Having a good time here. There will be pictures after the bedroom is repainted.
DeleteGlad you have settled in. The temperatures sound perfect too. Washington has a lot of nice nursery's if you get a chance to investigate.(-: Have fun painting(-: Did that last Summer and glad it is finished(-:
ReplyDeleteCiNdEe, LOL, I've hit more nurseries in the last few weeks than should be allowed. Found one close by that has all the stuff I like... this is not necessarily a good thing.
DeleteHope you are surviving the heat waves.
Glad you are settling in and liking it and that you can be with family.
ReplyDeleteChanges, Thanks, I'm so blessed!
DeleteNice photos especially of Willie. I was born in Oregon but then my folks moved to Washington where some years later I got my first driver's license before we all moved back to Oregon. I still consider myself also a Washingtonian, which I still pronounce with a r lol
ReplyDeleteRain, I have much to learn about living here. So far I have been amazed at how friendly most people are, and the level of service. No one gives you all the BS that you get in Cali about everything from grocery bags to fireplaces.
DeleteSettle in and enjoy, BUT keep those libs in Portland and Seattle at arms distance.
ReplyDeleteWoodsterman, Yes sir!
DeleteGood for you...;)
ReplyDeleteSkip, Thanks, I am really liking it here!
DeleteWelcome to WA Brig. I was born and mostly raised here. Happy to be here and glad you're re-homed with family here.
ReplyDeleteCelia, Thanks, loving this beautiful place!
DeleteIf I had to pick any where else to live than here, the PNW is my first choice. Enjoy the climate, family and friends.
ReplyDeleteA Patti, I never get tired of the views!
DeleteGood for you! And congrats!!! Horse grey... snerk... :-D
ReplyDeleteOld NFO,
DeleteThanks, now if I can just finish sorting the stuff still in the garage...
Horse grey is a fitting color, lol.
It's nice for you to finally put all the hassle behind you. Would like to see the bedroom after it's painted.
ReplyDeleteAdrienne,
DeleteWill be sure to post bedroom pics after it is painted.
LOL, all the hassle is never really behind us, but the level of drama has gone down a whole lot, yay!
Well, there you are! Long last, you have floated down from your universe of many hats and landed in Washington, right by the river. No sales tax across the bridge. No state income tax in your new state. Where do they "get" you in WA? How do they make up that money. In Portland, the property taxes are substantive, especially if you are in certain counties. As you have always done, you will bloom where you are planted and decorate your space and life with color and class. Enjoy the moment and the breezy weather. We head up to Portland for the 4th. If you have never experienced a July 4th in Portland...well...it's like a major shooting range for several days.
ReplyDeleteCheri, It has been an adventure! OMG, we went to a friend's house for the 4th and the whole area was lit with huge fireworks for hours. We could see them miles away across town, too! Everyone was out in their driveways and streets! Never happen in Calif...
DeleteWell done, but I have to 2nd Odie's motion. It's furiously hot here but, of course, that's Texas...
ReplyDeleteLSP, Padre, we are across the river from Portlandia and it makes a big difference. If you get out west, come see me and I'll take you out for some real fish'n!
DeleteWillie looks like he is fitting in.
ReplyDeleteBW, He is... though Sean says he won't be a full ride til he gets his HD collar.
DeleteThe paint isn't new and if it smells bad it is too old to use. All this from the wife of a house painter.
ReplyDeleteIt's perfect here on Point Loma. :)
Mage, Thanks for the heads up. I haven't opened the can since I bought it, so I'm in hopes that it will be ok.
DeleteI enjoyed the 18 years spent in the PNW. Obligations brought me back to Colorado and keep me here.
ReplyDeleteWell Seasoned Fool,
DeleteWe do what we need to do. This is all still new to me, we'll see how well I do after a winter here.
Sounds like you’re getting settled in. Had family member leave San Jose for Washington a few years ago - no regrets.
ReplyDeleteJoared,
DeleteSettling in here, just a bit slower than I used to be... I don't regret this for a moment.
Sounds like all is going well and you are getting all settled. Washington State is a nice place. My entire extended family lives in Oregon, they fled California years ago.
ReplyDeleteHarry, I have family here and in Oregon. Miss my Calif crew & friends but not Cali!
DeleteHUZZAH!
ReplyDeleteScott, Back at you bud!
DeleteSo it's Washington for you. Do you have a house? Or are you RVing it? I haven't quite figured out the details, but anyone who's contemplating what to do with a gallon of paint is well on the way to "settled." I'm so happy for you!
