Sure thing Bucko...

Since Dad is in the wilds of Ideeho hunting, and Lord knows what else, I can only get out of the house for a few hours when the home helper is available to take care of mom.
T, fresh back from a four day pistol class he and one of his boys took at Front Sight, asked me if I wanted to go to the range.  I had to think on that for about a second. Yes, Please!

He and a couple of his friends were going to sight in their rifles before heading to Colorado deer hunting.

So, I got to shoot my Sig for a few hours, and a lot of one to one instruction. T is great at critiquing my shooting and passing on helpful tips and techniques, as well as giving me access to a wide range of guns. It is special that he is willing to take me along, as the range has a high dollar closed membership, and the waiting list is long.

Side note:  Seems I misunderstood what C said about dad's reason for checking his funds before they left. C says he said, warehouse (as in Sportsmens Warehouse). Sure thing Bucko...

Good hunting...

Dad and C left Monday for my brother's in Ideeho.  They are in search of the great Wapiti.

Dad has been wanting to do this for a while and I'm very glad that C was willing to take him on such a long trip.  I don't want to know what Dad bribed him with...

Per his instructions I packed Dad's cell phone, spotting scope, cold weather gear, meds, Stetson, boots, and snacks. He left all his rifles with me, as C has enough of them to get the job done.  I put an ID tag around Dad's neck that said "return to Brighid", just in case my brother got to thinking he could keep him.
Dad was counting his funds as they got ready to pull out.  I asked what that was all about, C said Dad was checking to see if he could afford a stop at the whore house on the way...

They called late Monday night to say they had made it to base camp at my brother's house. They made it in 11 hours, by golly they must not have stopped on the way...

Good hunting...

Biscuits'n gravy ..

Dad loves biscuits 'n gravy, which I struggle to make on a regular basis.  Truth be told, my biscuits work better as replacements for when we run out of white flyers.

I asked my girlfriend, whose wonderful biscuits with gravy her guy loves, for her biscuit recipe and any making tips.

After a long pause, she said... "How many times have you eaten biscuits here?"
"Lots," I said, "and they are always light, fluffy, and yummy."
"Yes, well... I don't have a recipe for them."
"Dammit," I said, "don't tell me you are one of those 'I don't use a recipe' people!  Come on, help me out here before I kill off Dad."
"I don't need a recipe," she said, "All I have to do is open the Schwan's Southern Style Biscuit bag and throw them in the oven for 20 minutes."

So, as the Schwan's truck roars off down our driveway, I send up a little prayer for a friend who just may have saved Dad's life.

Carry on...

The CCW permit is mine... as is the responsibility that goes with it.
A most humble Thank You to all those who encouraged and helped, you know who you are.  I appreciate your wisdom and insight more than I can say.

And if even one of you hints to my kids that Mom is doing poker night escort (to their rides) duty for their grandpa's ol cronies...

Book Notes...

Three great reads by new authors are just waiting for you...
L.B. Johnson has written a wonderful book about a Labrador Retriever, love, and life.
For more info on this great book see http://www.thebookofbarkley.blogspot.com/

Even if you have never had a dog, Barkley will melt your heart...

*****

J.L. Curtis, well known as the blogger Old NFO, has two books out. Read Vignettes first so you get to know the main character, John Cronin. Cronin, a decorated Vietnam veteran, is a Texas rancher and lawman.

I seem to have fallen a bit in love with John Cronin...sigh

All three books are available from Amazon in both Kindle and paper.
