Willie, Hank, and me...

Willie and I are back from taking the last pickup load of the day to the green waste dump site.  Where Willie supervises the unloading from inside Hank's air conditioned cab. I am hot, dirty, & tired, but still smiling. Of course, Willie is none of the above, because he is in a management position.

We are glad that the bank is almost done, so we can move on to the hedges.  I say we because Willie supervises, from the safety of his fenced yard.  This is important as the neighbor's cat, Pebbles, has eat'n Willie's lunch once already, and we don't need another trip to the vet.

There is one lone sunflower on the bank, and I didn't have the heart to cut it down. Took it's picture instead.

Willie and I received an invite to dinner. Thank goodness for friends that cook and say "come as you are".

  1. Love that sunflower! Take care, Brig. The heat can be killer.

    1. Granny Sue,
It's a cutie. Thanks, I try to get outside stuff done early in the AM, and keep well hydrated.

  2. There's a woman after my own heart -- save the sunflower! There was one huge basket-flower plant growing along a median just down the road from me, and lo... when the city crew showed up to mow, I'll be darned if they didn't go around it. Miracles do happen.

"Come as you are" is the best, especially after a long, hot, hard day. No dinner invites for me tonight, but I did cut into the first watermelon of the season. Cold, seedless, sweet. Yes!

    1. shoreacres,
Sunflowers are a favorite, and I have random ones growing around the yard, thanks to the scrub jays.
Watermelon is a treat, I had one last week.

  3. How the heck can you look so good after all that work? I did some weeding and then mowed. It's do dry here now that after mowing I was so covered in dry grass I had to leave my clothes on the deck. And sweat? My head just drips sweat. I have to wear a sweat band or I'm blinded by the drips. "Come as you are" would not work for me.

    1. Adrienne,
LOL, I have a bandana sweatband on under my hat, or I can't see for the sweat pouring off my forehead...
They are very nice friends to tolerate me!

  4. I would be too busy running from the sunflower to cut it down. Those eyes look threatening. LOL

    1. Granny Annie,
LOL, when I was putting the eyes on the sunflower a neighbor came walking up yelling "don't cut down your sunflower". I told the neighbor, I'm not I like it, I'm just adding eyes so it can see the sunrise...

  5. Thank heavens you have Willie to manage you while you toil. Some would suggest that Willie is a Democrat based on that behavior.

You might just have something there, he sure does like free handouts for doing nothing.

    1. Jenn,
They are aren't they! There are huge fields of them down at my daughter's. The ones here have been planted by the scrub jays, and it's fun to see where they are going to come up.
